Improv Asylum is excited to welcome their new Artistic Director, Will Luera! Will joins Improv Asylum with a wealth of experience having been the Artistic Director at Improv Boston in Cambridge and most recently as the Director of Improvisation at the Florida Studio Theater. After a delayed start due to a little thing called the COVID-19 pandemic, Will is in Boston and currently directing the new Main Stage show set to premiere in September. Check out Will’s very first Director’s Note below!
I am beyond excited to return back to Boston, where I had a chance to do comedy for 17 years. What excites me even more is the opportunity to come back to work for Improv Asylum, an organization that I have a long history with and whose footprint in the Boston comedy scene is undeniable.
Not only has the world changed in the last couple of years but the comedy scene has changed as well…and I’m proud to be with Improv Asylum during this moment of evolution. My goal is to take what Improv Asylum has done and push it to the next level. Find ways to produce memorable comedy shows that not only showcase the talent of our theater, but also integrate our audiences in new and creative ways that insure that no two shows will ever be the same.
Boston has been the center of comedy and the hub of the universe for decades. My goal is to make 216 Hanover Street where everyone looks towards for cutting edge comedy. Not just the Boston area and New England…but beyond. I look forward to be working with my fellow team members at IA to continue to push the boundaries of comedy while at the same time including more and more audience members along for the laughs.
