During financial times like these you often hear about layoffs, and cutbacks; and in particular the entertainment industry can often feel the pinch as the general public cuts back on their expendable spending. However, there are a few local businesses that are thriving during these hard times. Improv Asylum, for example is announcing a new show schedule created to meet high demand. To accommodate the 100 – 200 patrons that are currently being turned away on Saturday nights, Improv Asylum is adding a Sunday evening performance and switching to a 7 PM, 9 PM and 11 PM show schedule starting in April.
The 7:00 and 9:00 shows on Saturdays will feature the acclaimed main stage cast performing their latest revue Pretty In Pink Slips. From being rick rolled, to racial issues in advertising, Pretty In Pink Slips is a hysterical improv and sketch comedy revue created with the Asylum’s signature ironic view. As always, the show feature a ton of audience participation, going so far as putting an actor live on Hanover Street to interact with passers by, with unexpected and always funny results.
Improv Asylum’s new 11 PM show, Unhinged, is a 100% improvised show feature current and former main stage cast members doing what they do best, making it up as they go along. Unhinged is a lighting fast show where you never know what can and will happen.
In addition to the new Saturday night schedule, Improv Asylum has also added an extra performance on Sunday evenings at 8 PM. Best of Improv Asylum, which is currently running on Wednesday nights, will be moving to Sundays. Improv Asylum’s NXT cast will perform the best sketches from past main stage revues, as well as improvised scenes based off of audience suggestions.
To fill the Wednesday night spot, Vanity Project returns! A special project of Improv Asylum owners and original main stage cast members, Chet Harding and Norm Laviolette, Vanity Project features the duo with current IA actors, alums, and special guests who perform two sets of anything-goes hilarious improvisation.
From starting your evening early to late night options, improv asylum has a show for anyone looking for a great night out. All brought to you by the funniest and fastest minds in Boston.
