Boston’s Best Comedy Joins The Brockton Rox

Jun 28, 2022

The Brockton Rox kick off their season with a new owner: And… he’s anything but normal!

The Brockton Rox are doing things a little differently this year as they begin their summer of baseball. Fans are rushing to the stands for big name players such as D’angelo Ortiz, Manny Ramirez Jr., and Pedro Martinez Jr.– but that’s not the only draw this season.

With the addition of a new owner, the Rox are trying to bring back the packed out stadiums they used to see every night, and they are bringing in some new talent to do so!

Who is this new owner? He is none other than the owner of Boston’s leading comedy clubs: Norm Laviolette!

Stormin’ Norman Takes The Field

Stormin’ Norman is anything but normal, and he is bringing his unique flair to Baseball this summer!

Norm Laviolette is the owner of Laugh Boston and Improv Asylum: two comedy clubs located in the heart of Boston that brings live comedy to the city almost every night of the week!

Norm is the founder and CEO of these businesses, and his motto is pretty simple: do things different!

This is the motto he is applying to baseball, a game that many fans have seen as becoming slow and boring. Taking a page from popular teams such as the Savannah Bananas, Norm is bringing live entertainment to the ballpark.

How Improv and Summer Baseball Met

What does Improv Comedy have to do with baseball you may be asking?

Simple.

When a fan goes to the comedy club they want to be entertained, and the performers do anything they can to do so.

The same goes for baseball!

Fans love to be involved– and improv comedy is all about audience participation.

Baseball needs to change to keep up with the speeding world. One of the most frequent complaints of baseball is that it is too slow, too boring, and too low energy.

With a game that needs to be revolutionized, who better to do so than a bunch of crazy comedians who are used to making things up for a living?

And that’s exactly what the new owner is doing, he is making things up!

Every game this summer you can come and see something new as the marketing team builds an entirely new way of entertaining the fans!

So, what are they doing?

The Rox are building their entertainment from the ground up!Every inning you can find dancing mascots, base races, stretching on dugouts, dizzy bats, motorcycles, and so much more!

The Flamingo Bros

On top of that, at each game you can see The Flamingo Bros leading the crowd in cheers, dances, and games from the field– or even on top of the home team dugout!

The Flamingo Bros are Mitchell Scott and Henry Nickerson: performers at Improv Asylum who trained at Improv Asylums Training Center!

Their antics are just what baseball needs, a lot of fun that gets the crowd involved and the energy up!

You can see them teaming up with Stormin’ Norman all summer long when you buy tickets to any Rox home game!

Themed Games!

Want to get a chance to dress as a cowboy? Wear some Birkenstocks to the game? Maybe dressing up as a star wars character?

Games this summer will have varying themes that you can partake in to get things like free hot dogs at the park!

Motorcycles!

Each game kicks off with Norm Laviolette riding into the ballpark on a motorcycle, throwing his hat into the audience for one lucky winner to pick up! He rides behind home plate to rev his motorcycle to a huge round of applause, before storming off into the outfield leaving a cloud of smoke!

We aren’t kidding– this guy is CRAZY! In fact, The Boston Globe has taken note of the fun and written all about the changes going on!

Get in on the action!

Also, while you’re at it, why not come check out where all this nonsense comes from by seeing a show at improv asylum! You can catch their Main Stage show on weekends, their NXT show on Sunday and Wednesday, and you can catch the Flamingo Bros every Tuesday night on House Teams!
